So the Times Union has a new derby blog- co-written by members of the Hellions of Troy, the Albany All Stars, and the Albany Men's Derby league. This is awesome for so many reasons.
1- I love reading about derby
2- it brings more attention to derby, in particular to all of the expanding local and regional leagues that are busting and/or kicking ass all the time!
3- It has the potential to unite the capital district derby community and provide 1 portal for all 3 leagues info.
its so awesome!
also- my cast came off last week so I can go back to full skating at practice! and I got my USARS card yesterday in the mail so I can begin hitting practice. This is all awesome news :)
I dragged my foot a bit too much on a left footed t-stop on Thursday night and ended up falling. hard. the wrong way. Also wrong was me putting my hand out- wide, to break my fall. What does that mean? I sprained my wrist. Or, more likely, did some serious tendon strain to the top of my wrist- since I don't think I did anything to the actual bone. Its been a few days of back and forth deciding whether or not to go to the hospital, the swelling has gone down but ummm...I'm thinking maybe hospital.
your stitches are all out but your scars are healing wrong the helium balloon inside your room has come undone and it's pushing up at the ceiling and the flickering lights it cannot get beyond
everyone takes turns now it's yours to play the part and they're sitting all around you holding copies of your chart and the misery inside their eyes is synchronized and reflecting it to yours
hold on one more time with feeling try it again, breathing's just a rhythm say it in your mind until you know that the words are right this is why we fight
you thought by now you'd be so much better than you are you thought by now they'd see that you have come so far
and the pride inside their eyes is synchronized into a love you'll never know so much more than you can show

one question tore down a wall I spent 20 years building up. one question. one person. 14 words and life changes. and then it moves on. all in the blink of an eye.
Loneliness is not the same as being alone. Many people have times when they are alone through circumstances or choice. Being alone can be experienced as positive, pleasurable, and emotionally refreshing if it is under the individual's control. Solitude is the state of being alone and secluded from other people, and often implies having made a conscious choice to be alone. Loneliness is unwanted solitude. Loneliness does not require being alone and is experienced even in crowded places. It can be described as the absence of identification, understanding or compassion. Loneliness can be described as a feeling of isolation from other individuals, regardless of whether one is physically isolated from others or not. It may also be described as a yearning for love or companionship, which is unfulfilled, but cannot seemingly be achieved, or may stem from the lack of love in one's life, and hence may lead to emotions such as rejection, despair and low self-esteem. Feelings of loneliness may be similar to feelings of the death or loss of a loved one. In their growth as individuals, humans start a separation process at birth, which continues with growing independence towards adulthood. As such, feeling alone can be a healthy emotion and, indeed, choosing to be alone for a period of solitude can be enriching[citation needed]. To experience loneliness, however, can be to feel overwhelmed by an unbearable feeling of separateness at a profound level. This can manifest in feelings of abandonment, rejection, depression, insecurity, anxiety, hopelessness, unworthiness, meaninglessness, and resentment. If these feelings are prolonged they may become debilitating and prevent the affected individual from developing healthy relationships and lifestyles. If the individual is convinced he or she is unlovable, this will increase the experience of suffering and the likelihood of avoiding social contact. Low self-esteem will often trigger the social disconnection which can lead to loneliness. In some people, temporary or prolonged loneliness can lead to notable artistic and creative expression, for example, as was the case with poet Emily Dickinson, and numerous musicians. This is not to imply that loneliness itself ensures this creativity; rather, it may have an influence on the subject matter of the artist.

My friend Rachel is doing the out of the darkness walk and does a lot of volunteer work with the American Foundation for Suicide prevention. I know we all have our charities that we support, and this is one of mine...so if anyone is interested here is the link where you can donate: http://afsp.donordrive.com/participant/rpriest
I found this new site today. I love it. It will revolutionize my time-wasting. It is....
HIPSTER PUPPIES
http://hipsterpuppies.tumblr.com/page/4
I love it. Ordinarily I don't like it when people dress up their pets....or when they mock their pets...but somehow this site is just fucking brilliant. Well, it gave me a chuckle anyway. Enjoy!
so Dlisted tells me that Jennifer Saunders [AKA Eddie from AbFab] is recovering from breast cancer. I wish her all the best, she was a huge influence on my formative years. Get better darling!! enjoy the clip everyone <3
this little slice of awesomeness is from Betty White's calendar (I KNOW! right?!!) coming out in September. The proceeds will be going to support the Morris Animal Foundation. More info here: http://www.morrisanimalfoundation.org/
Hellions of Troy recruitment night at the end of this month! I'm excited, its been a long time since I've been on skates and even longer since I've been to a kick-ass derby game!! For more info:
so the fail whales over at modcloth re-named the shirt "C U L8R Tee" and included a whole song and dance about how in China they end IMs with the phrase "88" which means "bye bye". They also mention in the new write-up that the shirt is made by the "fabulous Korean designer POL" and that the number 88 is a symbol of fortune and good luck in Chinese numerology.
Yeah, and in America its code for Heil Hitler and other white supremacists slang terms.
It seems to me they're just trying to cover their asses after a massive fuck up by one of their buyers... MAYBE I'm being too harsh though....and this makes me think- in today's global society how hyper vigalent can we be? Its great that we're exposed to so many cultures and fashions but how exhausting is it to stay on top of EVERY meaning for EVERY freaking icon/symbol/logo. It gave me a chuckle this morning but I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of shit happens all the time...thoughts?
so- modcloth.com is one of my fav clothing websites....but I'm not so sure I can get behind this most recent addition.
I'm hoping that their fashion editors aren't familiar w/ the world of white supremacy, but the name of this shirt, "Don't H8, Appreci8 Tee" makes me think otherwise.
For those of you who aren't immediately horrified, I recommend you google this shit.
I know when I'm done with my cowboy hip hop I rush off to put on some bedazzled velvet loungewear and cruise with the cougars.....ladies? just drop it!
Photo shopping already skinny models disgusts me. Aside from sending a horrible message to young women and destroying body standards and self-image...what does it say about your clothes? Seriously. People can't wear your clothes? Is that the messages you want to send? That you would rather design clothes for a hanger or a box than a human being? Then maybe start designing laptop cases because I'm fed up with this shit.
This pic (found while randomly trolling the internet for things to steal and take credit for) sums up my problem w/ the Disney classics (and dumb bitches) quite nicely.
She just gave all of her employees an extra 10K check today along w/ a ton of other crap I'm sure she found left under the seats after her most recent "I cleaned out my closet now you bitches get free cars" episode.
This is some serious incentive to move to Chicago!
O Oprah-- if loving you is wrong I don't want to be right....are you and Gail still on the outs?...If you need a new bff I'm here for you giiirrrrlllll...
So...Betty White is in a new show that premiers tonight on TV Land.
#1- seriously, TV Land? That's the best her agent could do?
#2- Doesn't she just need a nice nap and a cup of tea? Why is everyone bothering this poor woman?! Hasn't she deserved a lovely retirement?
#3- Seriously bitches? This is just golden girls in a crappier city. Don't believe me? Here's the official write up from the TV Land Website:
About Hot In Cleveland:
Hot In Cleveland revolves around three fabulous L.A. women of a certain age who are best friends (Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick). Their lives are changed forever when their plane-- headed to Paris for a girls-only celebration-- unexpectedly lands in Cleveland and they soon rediscover themselves in a new 'promised land'. Loveing their new home, the women find themselves living under one roof and battling the sassy caretaker (Betty White) of the property they have rented."
Seriously people? Seriously Betty White's agent? Seriously TV Land?
So lately I've been feeling a real kin-ship to the character of Betty Draper on the series Mad Men. She's a disenchanted former model/girl about town who married a mysterious handsome ad man (lead character Don Draper) and lives a life of enuie and despair in suburban westchester.
If only my wardrobe was half as wonderful as hers...and look how she sports a shotgun and cig! Life outside the city is a little rough but I think I'm still a ways off from re-enacting this scene...
In other news- this weekend was Albany pride. There were floats and dancing and wonderfulness and so, so many happy people that it truely helped me shake off the doldrums of the past week. also- drag queen lady gaga!!
So Perez Hilton has expanded from offering his unwarranted and unwanted opinion on celebrity behavior to stalking fashion hags in a desperate attempt at vaidation. Your still not fashionable OR skinny FATTO!!! j/k.. I kid, I kid.
I knew these pants were coming into style again...apparently they were popular a few years ago in France and all the sassy ladies of gay paris are throwing their washed up trends across the pond to us hags over here in the states. I think I hate these pants. BUT I think they look really comfortable...I have no idea what to think of these pants. I want to buy them, but don't want to be seen in them.
I am seriously considering doing this to my hair...and buying replicas of her entire wardrobe from Mad Men, Season 1...and, essentially, just being this bitch. love love love!!
Good for you Esquire's 2010 Sexiest Woman of the year-- 5 hearts! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
